One of the zones that was discussed in the article that intrigued me was zone 2, the dopamine and addiction economy, which deals with the implementation of identifying the human interactions with technology and the elements of addiction that Tech can cause during such interaction. A topic that was discussed in class that is an effective example of this zone would be the topic of Could AI go rogue. In the video, the podcasters have discussed the human interaction with AI and the dangers of this interaction with this piece of technology. This i an effective example because it explores the realms of the interactions that occur or could occur between AI and the user, from having AI complete your food orders to training the software to become obsessed with its interests. Another example would be the implementation of AI in society. This topic is a good example as it shows how the addiction that one can potentially have with the AI can alter certain aspects of their lifestyle. such as their thoughts on communication in relationships and the norms.
Another XZone that interests me was zone 6, which discusses data control and monetization. This zone covers data that is received by both public and private sectors. A good example of this that was discussed in our course would be the integration of technology for the purpose of enhanced practice of outreach and education in the field of social work. This is an effective example as it analyzes the software that could be utilized by the private sectors that practice social work, such as telehealth and cyber therapy, and how these types of software can enhance the efficiency of accessibility for their clients who may utilize this system. Another good example would be the topic of discussing integrating telehealth to vulnerable groups. This is an effective example as it discusses why extending this service to vulnerable areas, such as the rural population, can provide opportunities to address and understand the issues that are affecting these groups.
Another zone that intrigued me was zone 7 which discusses implicit trust and user understanding. this covers why tech companies need to consider the trust and understanding of their users and why it is important. A topic that alligns with this zone would be the boundaries issue in the digital age. This is an effective example as it does not discusses the practice standards of clients and social workers with regards to the use of technology as well as propose an approach that could be used to gain the trust and understanding of clients/ users which is a risk management.
The last zoen that Intrigued me was zone 8 which discusses the hateful and criminal actors. This zone emphasies that tech companies are to anticipate the possibility of their users utilizing their software for devi0ous or anti social activity. A topic that aligns with this zone is the impact of AI in society and metal health. This is an effective example as it shows the ways in which AI has evolved and how users have adapted to that integration for the potential worst. One case that was present was an interaction a user had with an AI chatbot. What was rather disturbing was the fact that the user could have customized the robot such as changing their name and profile.Such innovations can allow users to commit fraudulent acts against people that they may not be aquainted with for the sole intention of ruining their reputation. Another topic would be AI in society. This topic does not show how Users can use AI for malicious intent but rather how AI can influence others by altering their view of societal norms, which could influence the individual to commit malicious acts under the impression that such acts are acceptable
hey, I completely agree with your points, especially about Zone 2 and how the dopamine-driven design of technology can make people overly dependent on AI without realizing it, which is why this risk zone is so important for social workers to pay attention to. Your examples about “AI going rogue” show how easily tech can shape people’s emotions and communication habits, and I believe this is something we’ll need to start assessing more in practice. I also agree with your thoughts on Zone 6: data control and monetization are huge ethical concerns, especially as telehealth expands, and social workers need to understand what information these platforms collect so we can protect our clients. Your discussion of Zone 7 was also on point; people tend to trust technology too easily, and I think we have an important role in teaching clients about digital boundaries, privacy, and the importance of understanding what they’re agreeing to. Finally, your insights on Zone 8 highlight real risks, especially when people use AI for deception or harmful behavior, and I believe both tech companies and policymakers need to take more responsibility for anticipating these dangers. Overall, the zones you chose show exactly why technology literacy is becoming essential in social work, not just for us as professionals but for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the clients we serve
