Prior to reading the article, some of the things that were considered or came to mind were the emotional fatigue that we have. This type of fatigue was covered in the article, and this often occurs when one uses or interacts with the same software constantly. The joy that that individual had has become a blur. Many, such as myself, can attest to this perspective during COVID. COVID forced society to become heavily reliant on technology. The reliance has become potent to the point where nothing we do with technology undermines us, whether it’s scrolling through TikTok or watching Live TV on our mobile devices.

The author provides the four concepts with regard to the continuum from health to burnout, which are emotional, physical, behavioral, and cognitive. One of these concepts that resonated with me was emotional fatigue. The author states that one of the concerns that emotional fatigue is related to would be long hours, in which an employee uses technology to perform tasks. This describes my daily life as I use technology to find careers for my clients as well as assist them with resumes. This has created a burnout to the extent where I refrain from using my computer when I get home, as my mind has associated this with work. Additionally, I would often feel drained and would no longer become intrigued with the realms of technology. To prevent burnout in this area would be to limit the use of technology, as your mind has become saturated with technology that its use is only used as effective for work duties alone, instead of adding interest to its

For Table 2, the section of evidence and findings I have chosen is Technology failures. If I am at work and the tools of technology that are needed for me to perform my tasks fail, I would become anxious and might be in a state of fear, as my performance is affected by this inconvenience.  Tech fatigue may not be present in this instance of tech failure; however, if I were using technology for entertainment, and the technology that  is used to provide that entertainment fails by shutting down or making my source of entertainment inaccessible, I might view this as a sign and engage in outdoor activity to provide my mind the rest it needs from technology and thereby reducing tech fatigue. For manifestations I chose home office not being adequate and mobile creating problems. To address this I would identify the problems that going mobile presents and adjust my home office that could provide the qualities of going mobile. Doing so will allow flexibility of environment and reduce tech fatigue. For instance i change my scene of environment and make said environment my “work office” The change in scenery might bring about my overall feel to using technology.

One practitionaer stated that they feel independent regardless of the shift as they adapt to the environment ofr reaching ot when they need to. I resonate with this view because I had a similar experience. Even though COVID 19 was in 2020 i have been in online highschool since 2016. Which means tha the shift did not affect me unlike the majority. Because of this experience and the experience that I have not I believe that i can work in both remote and in person environment as I know how to adapt to those environment

I agree with ratcliff’s definition of burout to a point. I dont believe that brunout can only be caused by dealing with people but rather by becoming overwhelmed by either working with someone or something. The maslach burnout inventory is both a study I would read and engage with. I would engage with this article because it would provide ma better understanding of burnout from a natural perspective and also allow me to understand what else could trigger burnouts.

The tools Ratcliff has provided which are mindfullness and yoga are helpful as they promote the mind to be at ease and  allowing one to reflect on their day in a peaceful manner. When one applies this to their life they may be less likely to become overwhelmed as they would be at peace by practicing and integrating these tools into their dauly routine

    Gemalli,

Nice job with this post. You have a unique perspective in terms of your relationship to technology. It really is a blessing and a curse, isn’t it. I know I often feel that way, particularly when I am teaching two online, asynchronous classes. It provides me with some wonderful options I couldn’t have otherwise, but it can at times feel like it is constantly calling – and then when it doesn’t work the way it is supposed to, i can feel both anger and righteous indignation.
