Technology and its effects

The mission of the CHT is to be able to answer the question of how technology can be used to better help society.  I believe their mission to answer this question aligns with the goal of social workers, as our goal in general is how we can better serve society. I firmly believe that technology can be used to better society, nd one of the ways that it can be used to better society, especially in the field of social work, is  Communication and easy access to information. In the field of social work, communication with your clients is critical, as well as providing them with the resources that they need. Thanks to technology, Communication, and providing resources to our clients is convenient and efficient. Additionally, this answers the question of the ways that we can make technology a better society.  I think that social media can be a beneficial form of media consumption, as there is content on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, etc, with information ranging from how-tos to interesting facts about our history. It can also be a source of technology that could have the potential to deteriorate our mental health, as stated by CHT. Social media can affect one’s mental health, as it also contains content that could encourage individuals to reach a level of “perfection” that they may not be able to achieve.  This could range from having a perfect body and face to engaging in trends with the intent to “fit in”; this, as a result, can consequently cause one to lose touch with who they truly are. CHT believes that social media and its design are incentivized to keep people on their platform, which is done by capitalizing on the human brain’s vulnerability, which is an incentive. I was not surprised because it is understandable to see how this is done. Social media uses a system called algorhythm, which feeds content to the user based on what they consume. For instance, if the individual consumes musical content, the algorithm would provide that individual with content regarding music, which serves as an incentive to keep them attached to that platform for hours at a time. I agree with CHT’s statement on AI being the most consequential source of technology. One of the ways that AI has consequently impacted society is the ease of access to information. Unlike Google, where you were given a plethora of information and your responsibility was to decipher relevant from irrelevant information, AI does that for you by providing summaries that only pertain to relevant information that you need, which, as a result, can impact one’s critical thinking skills. One thing that I disagreed with CHT  and would challenge their view on would be their stance on the problem of relationships. AI can have an impact on how we interact and what we expect in relationships, but I do not believe that it can affect the social norms.  I believe that social norms is a foundation that is built on morals which is based on parenting.  AI does not have the capabilities (at this time) to have children and raise them. and as a result the socilal norm would not be  affected or at least te impact would not be as great as relationships. After reviewing the video of could AI go rouge I have gained an understanding of how it can go rougue. In the podcast they mentioned that AI can cause useres to go insane and they have mentioned instances where AI made or provided some users with the information to commit suicide. I believe that making individuals go insane is one way is evidence that they have gone rogue. AI is suppose to serve as a tool in which individuals can have access to information and be able to  complete tasks at ease. AI crosses that line when it begins to affect one’s mental health to the extent of insanity or suicide. this could potentially serve as proof that AI has gone rogue but society has not realized it.

after reviewing the content, IT appears that technology can have both a positive and negative impact on social services, However, it boils down to the social workers themselves. For instance social workers can use sources of technology such as AI to gather information and resources to better help their clients and they can use social media to keep themselves up to date with the changes in society and understand how those changes might affect the services that they provide or how they can intervene in those changes. However if that social worker has poor self care skills social media andAI can capitalize on that weakness and cause them to feel worthless or drive them to insanity which can consequently affect the service tat they provide.

You did excellent job on your blog post by elaborating on how social media can cause body dysmorphia. People sit behind phone or computer comparing their selves and how their life is supposed to be. Instead of being grateful for the body and life they have. This over exposure to cause issue and comparison.
