Digital Divide

  1. I think digital inclusion is very important in this generation with how everything is so dependent on it, if you don’t know how to work a cell phone, you are at a huge disadvantage . All of the elements shown are very important but in my opinion, healthcare systems are the most important. Much of the technology used in healthcare systems are a need and it should be easily accessible for everyone.
  2. This is a good framework because it gives examples of all of the reasons digital inclusion is a need, I wouldn’t have thought about food being included.
  3. The area that stood out the most to me was urban/metro vs. rural and tribal communities because the disparities are not a coincidence. It is pure racism that certain communities have less access to internet. Their argument was very persuasive and it defined the problems as well as it included all the necessary statistics to back up their data and included all areas I could think of and more in their article.
  4. I think launching a chapter under NASW is a good idea but I don’t see funding for any of the strategies being executed any time soon with the current state of our country.
  5. The most effective element in the third article was including events specifically for LGBTQ+, I really like how they would also take the time to give the option for these events to be online as well. It shows that they are not just simply giving the option for Telehealth but the option to be included equally.

    Hello,

I agree with your assessment that funding from traditional sources is unreliable in the near future. These article were written in a very different political climate. As macro-oriented social workers, we have skills to assess the impact of policy on our clients. As more funding is cut for resources, how do we fill the gaps? We will have to get more creative in our field in order to meet changing needs. Sieck et. al. mentions how allied groups should support one another’s digital equity goals. Libraries and other public entities may play an even bigger part in digital equity moving forward.
